Tworząc choreografię Romea i Julii (2007), Sasha Waltz zwróciła się ku jednej z najbardziej poruszających historii miłosnych w literaturze światowej. Historia nieszczęśliwych kochanków, których rodziny są wrogami, a których śmierć przynosi zrozumienie i pojednanie, jest jednym z najbardziej znanych dzieł Szekspira. Ta mroczna tragedia zainspirowała Hectora Berlioza do skomponowania dramatycznej symfonii Romeo i Julia na trzech solistów, dwa duże chóry i orkiestrę. Podczas światowej premiery w 2007 roku gwiazdy Aurélie Dupont i Hervé Moreau tańczyli kochanków, którzy odnaleźli się dopiero po śmierci. Jesienią 2012 roku spektakl Roméo et Juliette znalazł się w repertuarze mediolańskiej La Scali.
W kwietniu 2015 roku w Berlinie odbyła się premiera Romea i Julii jako koprodukcja Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Scala w Mediolanie i Sasha Waltz & Guests. Tam po raz pierwszy choreografię tę zatańczyli tancerze zespołu Sasha Waltz & Goście.
Obecnie Sasha Waltz przygotuje ten spektakl z zespołem baletu Teatru Wielkiego w Łodzi.
